It’s no wonder…

… I detest Sony, more so than I despise Microsoft’s business practises. They have acted irresponsibly with regards to laptop batteries that spontaneously combust, causing massive worldwide recalls and lots of damaged laptops. Their persistence to create their own proprietary formats for as many storage mediums as possible including; UMD, MiniDisc, Memory Stick. Then there is the Playstation 3 which in the United Kingdom is being sold at absurd prices and not even as capable as the Japanese/US versions, mind you Microsoft are guilty of this (without the crippling though). How about the legal cases trying to stop people importing Sony goods into Europe from Japan, take a hint Sony we a large proportion of us don’t like being a) left behind and b) ripped off. Then of course who could forget the summer highlight of two years ago when Sony used rootkit infested DRM to prevent people copying their CD’s, and then acted so irresponsibly towards the discoveries and complaints of users.

So, what have they done now?

This, they have tried to make their DVD’s copy-protected, and failed. Causing much annoyance to customers who have purchased legal copies of the DVD’s to find they make their DVD players power cycle etc. including Sony’s own players! There is quite a bit of discussion of this over at Amazon, from some apparently very annoyed customers. Superb work Sony, please continue to shoot yourself in the foot until you miss, shoot yourself in the head and actually die, it is for the best.

Apologies for this it has kind of turned into a rant.
