Dongly things, gizmos and noses

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

As usual I came across this rather humourous set of pages written by Douglas Adams purely by chance, the one that I really found quite amusing was a page about his nose. Another about dongly things is fairly cryptic but makes a strong case, would cut polution too :)

In recent mathematical discoveries 42 may have a significant value relating to prime numbers and their patterns so, not is 42 actually the answer to life, the universe, and everything but it could hold a key to prime numbers.

Enough of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy stuff already …

As you can guess its now ‘Summer’ Time here *peers out into the gloom*. I suppose things can only get better.

Black Images

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

You may have noticed that the images on my site have turned very dark, this is due to an issue with the PHP packages I am using. I shall aim to fix this ASAP, I should really report this as a bug.

Microsoft iPod Package

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

I discovered the most amazing Google Video; “How Microsoft would design the iPod Package”, and yes Microsoft has admitted to constructing the video. No doubt this was done on Windows software, who needs a bunch of Mac’s to make videos?

Bugtastic

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Those who read this or know me, may know that I am a PHP developer writing Minerva. Minerva is based upon phpBB the developers there are gearing up to release their latest (and greatest) offering, which is 5 years in the making. The number of “When will it be ready?” questions on the forums is immense, but eventually people can see that progress is being made.

So, on Sunday they opened up their bug tracker to accept bugs for the developmental code. Never one to pass on the opportunity to find a bug or two, I went hunting I have now claimed 8 bugs. These are: #1205, #1206, #1208, #1230, #1231, #1232, #1233, #1234.

Perpendicular Pocket

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Another day, another quote. A quote that actually occured in Physics my I add, much to my humiliation. *Rewinds back to Physics lesson and begins brain dump*

Jack appeared at our table with Ellie, Katy, Dave (the gate crasher), and me sat upon it, he said hey and Katy noticed his shirt pocket was at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to where it would normally be. After some other chatter Jack left again, and Katy mentioned how weird to have a pocket like that. I, with my imagination in overdrive, stepped in and said.

Maybe he is wearing his shirt sideways.

After a brief pause I continued to say (without engaging brain.)

But wait, where would the other arm come out of?
Ohh … Hangon the head hole!

That sent us into hysterics and me into a more colourful face than normaly, although I burried my head to hide my shame :( At least I noticed my own mistake I suppose, but would the rest of the table have realised I wonder?

Impending Doom …

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

… I got confirmation today of the beasts, 8 in total, I will be facing in the summer of this year, they are varied and sparsely populated with dense clusters of viscous life threatening creatures. I have until the end of May to prepare myself for the inevitable, no postponement is possible, the wheels are in motion so to say. I intend to tackle the beasts in a rigid order so I am prepared for each, no modifications unless time travel is made possible. I will be taking all the equipment I need purchased from shops, all reference material will be left at home because that would be cheating (wheres the fun if I don’t need to remember the week spot of said creatures.) Once the eighth beast has fallen I will be able to return home free :) No impending doom over my shoulders, grinning.

Toodles… (there is a clue or two)

Quotes

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Well, I thought I would start placing some funny quotes I collect, primarily from IM and IRC on my blog. So, to start off.

[Chris] how does it handle divide by zero?
[DavidMJ] .calc 1000000*7/0
* U1 has kicked DavidMJ from #minerva-dev (Don’t try and break me dumbass!)

Nice to see the developers thought about that one :)
