Last.fm

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

I now have a Last.fm profile which is updated, so you can all see what amazing music I listen too. ;)

Technical Stuff:
I use mpd to play music, for reasons not suited to this post, to update my Last.fm profile I have installed mpdscribble which is running as a daemon. I used the latest Debian package available and then used dpkg-reconfigure to set my last.fm username and password.

Ubuntu ntpdate Configuration

As promised I have documented the changes I made to the Ubuntu ntpdate configuration files.

Physics and Stuff

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

Let me start with the Physics …

The exams I had on the 12th went really well so much so, that I actually found a mistake in the definition of Ohms law on one paper. ;)

… now, onto the ’stuff’.

The Mozilla Corporation have released their latest offering, and the perfect partner to Mozilla Firefox 1.5, Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5. The new features sound amazing, I have not installed this latest installment of the Thunderbird E-Mail client but will be doing so soon.

I have also performed a rather abrupt ‘U-Turn’ and reverted back to using Gnome, KDE was just not cutting it in terms of stability. I do not expect to force fully restart my box when I unlock my screensaver. :(

Martin, has suggest I try out Fedora Core as it has improved substantially since he last tried it out. I have decided not to axe Ubuntu yet, I may however try out FC5 when it is released.

Today, I’ve been playing with my ntpdate configuration on my Ubuntu boxes trying to make it consistent accross the board, I shall post my configuration up here very soon.

Slowness…

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

… my server appears to be running a ‘little‘ slow today, it is reporting that everything is okay. It appears to only effect Apache, possibly only PHP, I shall take a poke around later and see if I can solve it. ;)

Exams

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

Well later on today, 2 hours time, I have two physics exams. I really hope they go as well as my maths exam, I have been working at the physics hard and feel fairly confident. :) So, how this will go I have no idea.

I just decided to post this from Konqueror, why? Because I can! :P I have sorted out most of my digs at KDE, now only time will tell if it is right for me. :) I may take a go at upgrading to KDE 3.5 when I have finished all these exams, two more after today, that would make it my birthday weekend.

I should really go and get changed I don’t really want to take me exams in PJ’s, I got up an hour ago too.

KDE

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

I have just started using KDE as my desktop environment after using Gnome for the best part of 9 months. First impressions are how very snazzy, I have found it a difficult switch. KDE has its advantages, but it also has its nags, I am espeically loving the customisability of it :). Konsole is nagging me a bit, doesn’t support control and arrow key combo’s AFAIK, amaroK is the most amazing media player I have ever known. Its features trash WinAmp, Rhythmbox, mpd, Windows Media Player (not hard), and Foobar2000, it takes a while to get used to but it is the most amazing work of software engineering :-D. Konqueror steam rolls nautilus for file management it is brilliant. I am loving KDE so much I am determined to make it work for me, must change this damn Ctrl + Tab key combo, stop it changing desktop.

I need to get Firefox looking a bit prettier, KHTML is good but it doesn’t beat Gecko’s ;), toolbar fonts are rather insulting my vision is not as bad as Firefox thinks *sigh*.

I shall return to the eye candy of my ‘K’ obsessed desktop.

Tidy

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

My room no longer looks like I live in it :-O I have removed the vast asortment of junk from the floor and assembled it ‘neatly’ into the cupboards, no more falling over stuff when it is dark :). I decided it was a perfect time to sort out the large collection of computer parts that resides in the bottom of one of my cupboards, the collection of boxes no longer wobbles precariously when reaching for a shirt.

I have two exams this week and one coursework deadline, exams I am well prepared for plus they shouldn’t be too bad. Coursework however, is rather non existant eek.

Déjà vu

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

Well this site somehow turned back into Wordpress, with a difference it is 2.0. They appear to have sorted the little things that made it repel me :). After struggling with it’s RSS importer, which didn’t work properly, I now have all my Jaws content here.

Not that I am knocking Jaws or anything I need a blog, Jaws was just the nicest solution available at the time. So, how long will this ‘paradise’ last.

I have just noticed I can post slugs O_o, lets try it out :)

Happy New Year …
